Ideal for filmmakers who intend to use DVD as a distribution medium for documentary, short films or showreels.
This course is an introduction to customised DVD production using Apple's DVD Studio Pro software.
Participants will be allocated an Apple computer for the duration of the course and will learn the principles of DVD authoring, including basic technical requirements through a series of lectures, demonstrations, q&a sessions and practical production exercises.
The course covers chapter and menu creation, editing clips for effective DVD presentation and principles of interaction design as well as workflow between digital imaging, editing, motion graphics and authoring software packages.
By the end of this course participants will have had the opportunity to:
- Identify the features and limitations of DVD-Video.
- Be introduced to DVD formats and MPEG encoding of video
- Explore production workflow, planning and budgeting for DVD production.
- Acquire skills in interface design
- Understand how to do menu preparation in Photoshop and to create motion menus and graphics
- Learn how to assign buttons and link to tracks, prepare and set up assets and use shapes and scripting
- Author a DVD project using a number of features and build and preview the disc
- Gain an overview of glass mastering and replication processes, and relevant sound formats for DVD (eg Dolby 5.1)
- Discover Blu Ray solutions
