Okay - lets forget official funding - unless you want to make crap like "you and your stupid mate".

What I want to know is how much can you sell a feature for?

Let's even forget about general release - maybe we should just concentrate on cable - how much would Fox pay for a reasonable feature?

If we are going to fund our own feature films (and these days that seems to be what it takes) how much can we expect to sell a feature for?

Would Fox or anyone pay $200k for a film? could you expect to make that going straight to DVD?

If it's going to be a viable industry then we have to produce films that we can sell at a profit - to do that we have to know how much we can sell a film for...

any comments ?

U r absolutely right. The only thing that will re ignite the buisness is for people to use deferrals and presales to get projects up. This will discipline producers to orientate to the market and popular films not Kultural propaganda.
It will take out the massive corruption factor enedemic in Government funding models and reintroduce diversity inot the Australian Production slate. Hopefully then "The Bad Old Days" of Government funding (AKA Corruption) will be a distant memory and all of those involved in the Film industry here will be able to have fun again.

Gee John not all of us producers rely on government funding!
In fact this is the 1st time I have applied for it but I must admit after a few year sick & not working - when I came back to get crew to work on it, they had all already had it.
So I guess I must be "old school" as most of the shorts have been privately funded. (check out temp site screenquest.tk)

Its hard though - to get private investors & I think more ACTORS should shell out $5 grand to star themselves in a short (provided its a good script that shows off their versatility etc.) I have done 2 shorts funded by the lead actor both of whom are working now one in mainstream TV the other in the US (no names sorry).
They had brains I reckon!

The other thing is private investors are business folk NOT film folk & they want a quick return on their investment or a tax write off (some even do it just to meet celebrities & pull chicks) & they want to see a feature you have done before investing the bucks - that is where funding is "supposed" to come into it.

peer to peer has ensured that none of this is relevent any more.

but if Mandie wants investors, a shot of her rumba in the bumba in a Lady GaGa style will do more for her than posting here...
